Careers Festival Triumph

Our Careers Festival was a huge success recently! Over 50 colleges, universities and employers attended the event and discussed future opportunities with more than 600 Year 9 to Year 13 students and parents.

Over 200 Year 11 students participated in mock interviews with professionals during the morning and took away lots of tips and ideas to help them prepare for real interviews. The students then had meaningful conversations with at least 10 exhibitors each to discuss future options.

Feedback from the event was very positive:

Year 11 student Liam said: “The Careers Festival is a very useful experience. I’ve learnt what it’s like to do an interview and now understand what I need to do to prepare. I’d like to become a doctor or pharmacist in the future and plan to study my A-Levels at College @ Deyes before university. The careers stands gave me an insight into various careers and providers available.”

Year 11 student Niamh said: “The mock interviews were good. My interviewer was very friendly and gave lots of great advice. I now understand how important it is to have a CV and do research on each employer. I’d like to go to beauty college after GCSEs and enjoyed talking to providers who offer these subjects at the festival. Careers events like the festival help us find out about lots of different career paths and routes.”

Mrs. Dwan, Deputy Head, St. Andrew’s Primary School: “We offer Deyes students work experience placements and support mock interviews as part of our partnership. I’ve been blown away by the students I’ve spoken to. The students were eloquent, prepared and embraced my opinions and feedback.”

Charlie, AMP SCITT trainee: “The mock interviews were really enjoyable. It’s really important for students to practice so they can learn from their mistakes in a safe space. I enjoyed talking to the students and giving them feedback and tips to help them improve.”
