Year 6 Summer School Success
Deyes High School’s Summer School was a huge success. The week-long programme is a key part of the transition programme designed to help new Year 7 students settle in before they officially start in September. The week gave over 180 students the chance to get to know their peers, meet staff and become familiar with their new school environment.
Students experienced a packed timetable of assemblies, lessons and activities. From enterprise projects and creative literacy tasks to food technology, scavenger hunts and teamwork challenges, the programme balanced academic stretch with fun and friendship. Social time and sports added to the experience, while a celebration assembly marked the end of the week.
Student Emily said: “It was a brilliant way to make new friends, and I feel ready for September now.” James added: “I really enjoyed the week – thank you to all the staff who made it so much fun.”
Staff praised the commitment of the new intake, with Mr Patten, Head of Year 7 noting, “We saw confidence grow each day and students really embraced everything on offer.”
KS3 Progress Leader Mrs Bradshaw added: “It has been fantastic to see how well the week has gone. The students have been enthusiastic, positive and eager to get involved – a great sign of what’s to come in September.”
