Our Journey at Deyes High School

We asked students about their experiences in Deyes High School and Sixth Form.

My Journey From Year 7 to Confident Sixth Form Student

Ryan, a Year 13 student at College @ Deyes, said:

“I joined Deyes High School back in 2019 and I’ve loved my journey from Year 7 right through to Sixth Form. When I first arrived, I was shy and unsure of myself. Over time, thanks to the support of my teachers and friends, I grew in confidence and found my voice. A highlight for me was performing as the headline act at GlastonDeyes music festival. At first, I was nervous, but with my music teacher’s encouragement, I prepared, performed, and ended up loving it.

What makes Deyes special is the teachers. They support you, respect you, and push you to achieve your best. The relationships I’ve built here have given me belief in myself, and that’s something I’ll carry forward.

This school has offered me so many opportunities, and I’m grateful for every single one. Deyes is a place where you grow, where you achieve, and where you’re inspired to do great things.”

Settling into Life at Deyes High School: Florence’s Experience

Florence from Year 9 added:

“I know many Year 6 students are feeling excited, nervous, maybe even a little overwhelmed. I felt the same when I joined just two years ago. I was worried about getting lost, making friends, and keeping up with homework. But very quickly, I discovered that Deyes is a place full of kind and supportive people – from teachers to older students – everyone wants you to do well and feel safe.

One of the best things about Deyes is the range of clubs and activities. From Star Wars Club to Music Club, there’s something for everyone. Joining clubs helped me make friends and discover new interests. I performed in Beauty and the Beast last year with the Drama Club which was so enjoyable and also represent my year in the Student Council where I help with school initiatives and organise events.

What really helped me settle in was getting involved and asking questions. You don’t need to know everything straight away. Everyone understands what it’s like to start somewhere new, and things soon feel normal.

To parents, I know this is a big step for your children too. But I can reassure you: Deyes genuinely cares. It’s a school that builds confidence, independence, and resilience. I’ve grown so much here, both in my learning and in my wellbeing, and I feel truly supported.”
