‘The important thing is to never stop questioning’ Albert Einstein

Vision

At Deyes High School, we believe that Science is for everyone. Our vision is to create a stimulating, inclusive, and ambitious Science curriculum that inspires curiosity, fosters resilience, and encourages all learners to think critically about the world around them.

We are committed to:

  • Removing barriers for SEND students through adaptive teaching pedagogy, multi-sensory learning of practical work, group discussion and turn and talk, tailored support through lesson resourcing of open and closed activities and mastery booklets to ensure full access to scientific learning.
  • Closing attainment gaps for Pupil Premium students by providing equitable opportunities in STEM activities, targeted intervention in small group work and live marking, Collective meetings and meaningful enrichment experiences.
  • Stretching and challenging all  ability learners through deep questioning, mini whiteboard activities, exploratory investigations, cold calling and opportunities to lead and innovate in scientific inquiry.

We aim to cultivate confident, capable young scientists who:

  • Ask big questions
  • Understand scientific concepts deeply
  • Apply their knowledge to real-world contexts
  • Aspire to careers and futures in science, technology, and innovation.

Science at our school nurtures engagement, excellence, and equity—ensuring that every child, regardless of background or ability, can thrive and succeed.

Curriculum Intent

Our science curriculum is designed to ensure that all pupils, regardless of background, ability, or need, develop a deep, broad, and connected understanding of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. It is ambitious for all learners, challenging their thinking while nurturing curiosity and critical enquiry.

  • All pupils will gain a strong foundation of substantive knowledge (core scientific content) and disciplinary knowledge (working scientifically), through a carefully sequenced curriculum that incorporates regular practical experiences. This enables pupils to think, speak, and behave like scientists and to link theory with real-world application.
  • We aim for all pupils, including those with SEND, those in receipt of Pupil Premium, and all ability learners, to develop the scientific literacy, numeracy, and independence required to understand and engage with complex modern scientific issues and global challenges.
  • Our curriculum promotes inclusion, equity, and aspiration by ensuring that every learner can access rich scientific experiences and develop the skills needed for employability, further study, and lifelong curiosity.
  • We are committed to providing a culturally rich and diverse science education that empowers all pupils to see themselves in science and aspire to limitless futures, no matter their starting point.
