Academy Governance Committee

Our Academy Governance Committees (AGC) plays an important role in supporting high standards of education across our school. Working on behalf of the Trust Board, Governors provide local insight, constructive challenge and assurance to help ensure that every academy continues to improve and deliver the best possible outcomes for pupils.

Acting as the Trust Board’s “eyes and ears”, the AGC helps the Board understand each academy’s performance, culture and local context. Governors bring a range of skills, knowledge and experience and work closely with academy leaders to support school improvement.

The work of AGC focuses on four key areas:

  • Standards – monitoring academy performance, pupil outcomes, behaviour, attendance and progress against improvement priorities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – ensuring the views of pupils, parents, staff and the wider community are heard and considered.
  • Safeguarding – seeking assurance that pupils are safe and that safeguarding policies and procedures are effective.
  • Inclusion – championing inclusion and monitoring provision and outcomes for pupils with SEND, disadvantaged pupils and other vulnerable learners.

The AGC does not manage the day-to-day running of the academy. Instead, Governors act as critical friends, providing support, challenge and independent assurance while helping the Trust Board to understand how effectively each academy is serving its pupils and community.
