“Mathematics knows no races or geographic boundaries; for mathematics, the cultural world is one country.”
David Hilbert
Mathematics is a highly interconnected discipline that provides students with the life skills necessary to become functional, numerate members of society. Developing a growth mindset through deeper thinking and risk taking will allow the students to gain enjoyment and curiosity about mathematics. Students are equipped with the belief that with hard work they can achieve. All students are encouraged to have a ‘can do’ attitude and are regularly challenged to think independently and reason mathematically.
Mathematics is a highly interconnected discipline that provides students with the life skills necessary to become functional, numerate members of society. Developing a growth mindset and challenge through deeper thinking and risk taking will allow the students to gain enjoyment and curiosity about mathematics. Most learners are strong mathematicians on entry and therefore the curriculum and teaching of the curriculum pitches mathematical knowledge and work students are asked to complete at a high standard.
All students are encouraged to have a ‘can do’ attitude and are regularly challenged to think independently and reason mathematically. Students can transfer their knowledge in order to be creative and confident problem solvers. In our subject area, students are resilient and thrive when challenged. We have high ambitions for all students and ensure that lessons are fully inclusive for SEND, PP and Most Able students.
By the end of each Key Stage, students will have experienced a culturally rich curriculum and will have mastered the essential knowledge both substantive and disciplinary, to proceed to the next key stage. In the next Key Stage students apply this essential knowledge though application, creativity and problem solving.
All lesson/series of lesson will contain the following:
Our subject curriculum has factored the impact of the pandemic – we have identified threshold concepts, reduced repetition when not essential and used baseline assessments to identify next steps
Our subject curriculum builds deeper understanding and the capacity for application and skilful performance.
Students join Deyes High School as strong mathematicians, and this is reflected in the ambition of this curriculum.
