Vision

Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts.

Curriculum Intent

The subject of Design Technology & Engineering encourages a tiered cumulative approach to problem solving, innovation, planning and evaluation as autonomous learners, that will allow them to fully access the essential knowledge and understanding allowing students of all backgrounds to have limitless futures. Our wider curriculum encourages innovative thinking and a stimulating approach to Design Technology and Engineering.

Our KS3 curriculum builds upon the legal entitlement for D&T delivered at KS2. We develop essential knowledge to ensure all learners including SEND, more able and disadvantaged, have a detailed understanding of materials, tools, equipment and the confidence to apply it appropriately, ready to make rapid progress in KS4.

KS4 & KS5

The Design and Technology & Engineering curriculum is designed to ensure that our pupils:

• Develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform essential tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world and understand its impact.
• Build and apply a repertoire of essential knowledge in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users.
• Critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others.
• Inspire creativity and imagination, designing products that solve real and relevant problems.
• Communicate essential knowledge to articulate and discuss new ideas or work as a team to solve problems
